Do you know who you are? by Kafelnikov Do you know who you are? by Kafelnikov
Fantastic artwork done by the ever-talented Ben Martinez, aka The Flaming Kuillox :icontheflamingkuillox:

This is general "cover art" for my in-progress DreamKeepers universe original story "The Wayward Astronomer". The story isn't finished yet, but the process of writing it has been deeply personal to me, and is helping me discover myself and who I am as a person. It's amazing how powerful storytelling can be, and embarking on this project has been one of the single most fulfilling tasks I have ever undertaken so far in my life. Infinite thanks go out to the people who are sharing the journey with me by reading my story and motivating me to push ever forward. I will finish this story, because it needs to be told.

Character design, story, plot, etc. are copyright to me. The DreamKeepers universe is copyright of David Lillie :icondreamkeepers:

Looking forward to Chapter 12... !
This, by the way, is a very cool depiction of your characters, and pretty much exactly how I imagined them.

Thanks Hastings! I know, I'll get 12 up soon. I've been traveling a lot in the past 2 weeks and hopefully now that I'm back I can stop being a lazy bum and just do it.

Reading the comments reminds me of just how subjective stories are to people. We can all read the same character description and get different images in our heads of the players. To me it makes sharing a story and world you love with another who shares your passion interesting.

Just wondering have you ever commissioned a drawing of one of your creations and when you saw how it was executed considered changing your description to match the art?  I had Psitt draw my character and forgot to mention the horns, now I'm not sure if I want to say this is him as a teenager before they showed up or change him to reflect the drawing. I watched her do it live and just love her take on him enough to think about it.

I've never really consciously altered my "canon" take on Hal or other main characters based on a different interpretation by an artist, but figuring out what that canon look is has been an evolutionary process. Before I even started writing the story I went through a very active discussion and fleshing-out process on the DK forums just talking about "my dreamkeeper" which eventually became Hal.

I actually commissioned Sorrel (who ended up doing things for free because she is awesome) to sketch out the initial concept art based my general description, and the first take on Hal was actually much more avian than the final design. I don't think I've ever posted the early concept art. It was a great exercise because it helped me figure out "yes I like this aspect" and "no, let's change this aspect". Her final version ended up being this after we got past the initial sketches: kafelnikov.deviantart.com/art/…

Then my commission slot for David Lillie came around and he produced this which essentially became the "canon" design for Hal, and pretty close to exactly what I had envisioned when I wrote Chapter 1: kafelnikov.deviantart.com/art/…

Then I started commissioning different people for different Chapters, and their takes all varied a little from one another. Twi draws Hal with a more elongated "alligator" type snout compared to Sorrel's blunter dinosaur snout. Byakurai and Switchblade are somewhere in-between. It's been really great to see all the different takes.

Who was it who did artwork for you? I'm always interested in finding new artists to do artwork for my story.

Psitt did it. I might commission her again as her rate is very reasonable and I really like what she did. Maybe try to age him a bit as living in the desert is a hard life and add the horns of his adulthood. Or have her do Pierre as he is a colorful character and even if not one of my main ones I like him a lot.

Twi's work is looking good as ever...how is the bolk I wonder? Haven't heard from him in quite some time...

Got to say though, this image of Marcus is 'completely' different to how I pictured him in the story; Even if it was never said, I always pictured him with a beard and wearing robes as suppose to classy suits =)  Also, I thought his three tipped tail was more compressed, so I thought it looked more akin to a whip, rather than having a hydra look. What a difference in perspectives eh?

Really looking forward to reading more of this story Kaf...cause it is true indeed...it must be told -_^

Twi is doing very well from what he tells me. His visa expired a while back, and he returned to South America for some time, but he's back in the US now in art school getting his masters degree.

Yeah, it's always interesting to hear and see what other people's interpretations of the characters are. Twi's interpretation of the characters is different from my interpretation of the characters, which is different from yours. I think you're the first person to say Marcus should have a beard, but that's alright ;)

I really appreciate your support Hazard.
